Ugly duckling

A long standing client asked me to strip back and finish this old hospital table. When I stripped the paint off the legs we discovered it was Rimu however when I peeled back the lino I discovered a very warped, rough piece of pine which was not suitable for the top. My client asked me to replace it and I luckily discovered an old piece of Rimu (at the recyclers) that needed shaping, sanding and edging once done it was ready to be attached, unfortunately the table was not level and in need of some adjustments before we could attach the top. Deciding to try and maintain the sanded look I used Rubio Monocoat which proved to be a good choice.

Save another one

The market need for good furniture is still vibrant, the desire for antiques has waned, therefore to save well built furniture is to combine new and old.Some will hate this approach and some will embrace it I am happy for two reasons it has gone to a good home and it will function for another 10 plus years, well after the flat packs of this world have fallen apart and filled the rubbish tips.

The Table needed more

A couple of months ago I sanded our dining table and sealed it with wax however it was not suitable for our use, I ended up removing the finish [four hours] and used Whittles Evolution Stains - Raw Stain Light which locks in the natural sanded look then finished in two coats of hard wax oil the result was perfect.

A new client wanted a kitchen bench shelf to provide additional space, used ply and stained to requirements, used my mix to seal the piece.

To good to throw out

A long time client asked whether I could refurbish two bedside tables, they are very well constructed therefore it would have been a waste to replace them. Needed a good sanding and some filling but overall they were well kept just normal wear and tear. As usual I painted the drawers after dismantling the runners and front panel.

Repairing the damage

A returning client recently asked me to repair the damage done to the top of a desk, I initially tried to repair the damage with the minimal disruption to the finish however in the end I decided the best approach was to sand back the top to bare wood and then colour match the stain and finish.

Refurbished and re-loved

This solid wood tall boy was owned for at least two generations and had been well used, the construction is sound however the feet just did not match the square body.

New look kitchen counter

A long standing client of mine asked us to refurbish their wooden kitchen counter top, it had a polyurethane coating that gave it the usual yellow/orange look. My client had recently renovated their kitchen but the top dated the new look.
